We can strengthen our memories by understanding errors and bias
Overview
In this section, we discuss cognitive biases that occur in the context of remembering. Unlike other sections, many of these biases can be directly applied for favorable benefit to improve memory. The primary sub-sections include the following:
- Egocentric: Memory bias that serves our ego needs
- Depth: Bias in recollection relating to the depth of processing
- Spacing: Bias in recollection relating to the spacing and time-frame of practice
- Generation: Bias in memory related to whether practice involved generation of content
- Bizarreness: Memory bias in favor of the bizarre
- Modality: Bias in memory related to information perceived through picture vision, hearing speech, or reading
- Suggestion: Bias in memory that can occur as the result of suggestion
